While the name may seem familiar, many people don't know much about the musical Me and My Girl.

Here's a few of our favourite facts to whet your appetite!

  • Did you know that Me and My Girl is a sequel (of sorts!) The lead character Bill Snibson first appeared in a musical called Twenty to One. Not as well known as the classic tale of Me and My Girl, Twenty to One was a hit straight away with over 400 performances on the west end, and many hundreds more on tour!

  • Of course, the 400+ performances of Twenty to One on the West End is nothing compared to the whopping 1646 performances the original production of Me and My Girl staged in the West End.

  • Further to that, the 1646 performances during it’s original run may seem insignificant compared to the 3303 performances the 1985 revival boasts!

  • The character of Bill Snibson was first played by Lupino Lane in Twenty to One. He then went on to direct, produce and star in the West-End debut of Me and My Girl, and later star in...

Many people have heard of the musical Me and My Girl, but don’t know a whole lot about it.

Well, this theatre classic includes many songs you’re bound to know!

The Lambeth Walk

Named after Lambeth Walk, a street in London famous for its street markets, this song featured in the musical from the very beginning. The iconic dance we all associate with it now was made famous by Lupino Lane who played Bill Snibson in the show.

The Sun Has Got His Hat On

Me any My Girl has undergone many re-writes during it’s time and The Sun Has Got His Hat On first appeared in the musical in 1985, although it originally dates from the same era as the show, first being performed in 1932 and proving a favourite for dances all around the country.

Leaning on a Lamp-post

The best known rendition of this song has to be by George Formby, who originally performed it in the comedy film Feather Your Nest in 1937. Proving an iconic song of the 1930s, it made it’s way into Me and My Girl during the 1985 re-write of the show.

  • The Spice Girls is possibly the most iconic girl-group ever. Don’t agree? Well, what other girl groups have been called “heros” by Nelson Mandela? And while we all know them as Sporty, Scary, Ginger, Posh and Baby, the members didn’t choose their own nicknames. Top of the Pops magazine made up those nicknames and they just stuck! We all know that Posh Spice went on to marry David Beckham and become the style icon we all know today, Victoria Beckham, but can anyone remember her maiden name… Victoria Adams.

  • Wet Wet Wet hail from Glasgow, originally being formed in Clydebank High School with frontman Marti Pellow’s real name actually being Mark McLachlan. Nelson Mandela must have really been into his 90s pop, since Wet Wet Wet performed at his 70th birthday celebration. The band are tied with Sir Elton John for the mos...

Since the 1990s, his record of 17 weeks at the top of the US album chart is yet to be beaten! Of course, many of us already know this, but talent must run in the family, since his daughter is non other than wrecking-ball-riding, Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus.
